Keywords: hydrodechlorination, rhodium, Pd-Pt, alumina-titania, 1,2-dichloroethane

The effect of Pd, Pt, Rh and the bimetallic PdPt (Pd/Pt=4) as active phases for the gas-phase hydrodechlorination of 1,2 dichloroethane was studied. An Al2O3-TiO2 mixed oxide with atomic ratio Al/Ti=25 (AT) and Al2O3 (A) were used as carriers. These materials were prepared by the sol-gel method and characterized by nitrogen physisorption to obtain their textural properties (BET Area, pore volume & average pore diameter). Active phases were impregnated with a metallic load of 1 wt.-%. Reactions were carried out in a fixed-bed differential reactor at 250°C and atmospheric pressure. Titania-modified support showed a BET area of 422 m2/g slightly higher than A (374 m2/g). Reaction rate for tested supported AT catalysts resulted in order of activity as follows Pt<Rh<Pd<PdPt and in terms of selectivity towards non-chlorinated compounds the order was
Pd<Pt<PdPt<Rh. The PdPt/AT catalyst presented a catalytic activity 15% higher than PdPt/A.
