Abstract

Excipients are components of drugs formulations in addition to the active compounds. Their purity, stability and other physical characteristics must be evaluated in conjunction with those of the active compounds. Excipient analysis is frequently reported as these materials are of universal use,and publication of these analysis does not infringe commercial secrets. A review of thermal analysis methods used in the analysis of drugs is done, and it is shown that the DSC Tzero™ Technology improves results. The detection and characterization of polymorphous, pseudo-polymorphous and amorphous formulations is described.
